Ceremonies for the days you will always remember
I'm Mary, a civil celebrant based in Hobart. I write and lead weddings, elopements, funerals and memorials — two very different days, held with the same care.
Whichever brought you here, my job is the same: to understand the people at the centre of it, put that into words that sound like them, and make the day itself feel unhurried.

Two doors, one celebrant
Where would you like to start?
Choose whichever fits the day you're planning, and I'll meet you there.

A ceremony that sounds like the two of you
Personal, relaxed and genuinely engaging — for a full gathering, a coastal elopement, or a quiet legals-only ceremony. I book one wedding a day, so your timeline is the only one I'm watching.

A memorial that sounds like them
Memorials, celebrations of life and ceremonies planned well ahead — including living funerals, held while you're still here to enjoy them. I also work as an End of Life Doula, and traditional funerals remain part of what I offer.

What every ceremony I write has in common
The tone changes completely between a wedding and a funeral. These four things don't.
One ceremony a day
I don't fit people in. If the Tassie weather does what it does and we wait twenty minutes for a front to pass, we wait. Nobody is watching the clock on my behalf.
Written for you, not the room
I write for the couple, or the person, at the centre of it. But I love bringing the people in the room into it too — their part in the story matters, and it shows.
The paperwork handled properly
Legal requirements, forms, deadlines and registrations explained in plain language, in the right order, without you having to chase me.
Anywhere in Tasmania
I'm based in Hobart and my office has no walls. East coast shacks, bush clearings, vineyards, chapels, halls and back gardens. I like the drive.
About Mary
A Tasmanian, not just a local
I know the bones of this island. I'm a Blundstones-on-the-ground kind of person and I'd rather a ceremony be real than photograph perfectly.
What I actually do is listen. I ask a lot of questions, I notice the small specific details that make a person or a couple recognisable, and then I put those into words you'll want to keep.
No two ceremonies are quite the same, even when the shape is familiar — that's exactly the point.

The process
I've got you covered
Whether we're planning a wedding twelve months out or a funeral in five days, the shape is the same.
We talk
Over tea, on the phone, or on a video call if you're interstate. You tell me what you're imagining. I tell you honestly whether I'm the right fit.
I gather the story
Questions, notes, family memories, the things you'd never think to mention. This is where a ceremony stops being generic.
You read the draft
You'll get the full script to read through — except for the "their story" section, which stays a surprise until the day. Everything else is yours to change or cut.
I turn up early
Sound sorted, paperwork sorted, calm in place. All you have to do is arrive and be in it.
Kind words
From the people who were standing there.
“We are so grateful to Mary for creating such a warm and romantic wedding ceremony for us. Her professionalism and kindness truly made a difference — she provided us with so many thoughtful ideas and support throughout the process. Mary made everything feel so special and meaningful.”
“We're so happy we had Mary as our celebrant for our wedding. The ceremony was engaging, just the right length and reflected us as a couple. Our family and friends commented how much they enjoyed Mary's ceremony, being a part of it and that it felt so personal.”
“Mary was an absolute dream to work with. Right from the beginning she made us feel completely comfortable and like we had been friends for a long time. So much so that our photographer asked how long we had known each other for. She spoke so beautifully about our story. She brought a perfect balance of calm and excitement to the day.”
Tell me what you're planning
A wedding, an elopement, a funeral, a memorial — or you're not quite sure yet. Send me a note and I'll come back to you with something useful.
